As it relates to valves, API 6D is the American Petroleum Institute's specification for pipeline valves in the petroleum and natural gas industries. It contains requirements for ball, gate, plug, and check valves for pressure ratings up to ASME class 2500.
In the context of resiliently seated butterfly valves, Category A valves feature a concentric disc and seat configuration, where the stem, disc, and body are aligned along the same centerline. They must meet the fire test and leakage requirements of API 607 and are suitable for low pressure applications like HVAC and wastewater treatment.
Category B butterfly valves, designed for higher pressure applications, are used in industries like chemical processing, oil refining, and power generation, where frequent cycling and durability are crucial.
Double Offset & Triple Offset designs are common configurations suitable for higher pressure ratings, covering ASME CLASSES 150, 300 AND 600.
These ball valves are ideal for applications involving high temperatures, pressures and abrasive fluids where soft seats would rapidly deteriorate. Metal seats can be hardened by specialized coatings like tungsten or chromium carbide, enhancing their resistance to wear and corrosion in applications such as power generation, refining, oil and gas, petrochemical, chemical, and mining.
Pressure seal valves, especially in high-pressure applications like power generation, oil & gas, and petrochemical industries, are designed to maintain a tight seal by using system pressure to enhance sealing, ensuring safety and efficiency.
Cryogenic valves are designed to safely control the flow of cryogenic fluids in applications like LNG storage & transport. They feature extended bonnets and specialized materials of construction including stainless steel and nickel alloys.
Cryogens, like LNG and LOX, are flammable, so cryogenic valves must be designed to be fire-safe, often complying with standards like API 607 and ISO 10497.
These valves are essential for controlling the flow, pressure, and temperature of fluids in systems like plumbing, HVAC, marine and industrial processes.
They are typically made from materials like carbon steel, cast iron, stainless steel, and metal alloys and are certified to FM, UL & AWWA requirements.
API 602 forged steel gate, globe, and check valves are suitable for applications in refinery units, petrochemical plants and other compact industrial setups where space is a constraint.
